Large deformations in the cantilever slabs were observed due to lack of top reinforcement and the slabs needed to be strengthened.
The design, schematic and site supervision was performed with HILAL Consultants experienced engineers. This type of project needs high care and slow rate of work, with close supervision to get the best results.
The ground floor ceiling of this building was lacking in shear reinforcement of beams and the beams needed to be strengthened in shear. According to architectural aspects the width of beams was not desired to be increased. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) were used as external shear reinforcement to minimize the increase in beam thickness. The beams needed to be smoothed and then the epoxy layer was applied and then the CFRP strips were applied and pressed against the concrete surface. The supervision of our experienced engineers was a must in such a new technique.
The ground floor ceiling of the factory "NUNU" for textiles in Cairo was subjected to heavy water vapor. The lead to steel rust. The change in use of upper floor to heavy LL warehouse, needed urgent strengthening for the floor. A system of steel beams to support the concrete slab was chosen and mounted under design and supervsion of our engineers.
